In literacy this week one of the main objectives is to introduce our students to the concept of empathy. They will be reading several fairy tales from various perspectives. Then the students will persuade readers to grant the fairy tale characters some compensation based on their perspective. (ie Jack and the Beanstalk - does Jack deserve the things he steals, does the Giant deserve to get his things back?)
In math we will be taking Unit 11 assessment and then beginning our final unit! This unit will review many of the concepts we have been studying throughout this school year including telling time, fractions and working with money.
In social studies we are working on a unit called 'Speak Up!'. It empowers students to stand up and advocate for what they believe in. They may come home with questions about problems/solutions and ideas that you have to help them solve various situations we are presenting in class.
Reminders: Field Day is this Thursday, May 3rd. Thursday evening is also our Movie Night! There is no school on May 4th due to an assessment day. Please sign your child up for a DRA test if you have not already done so! http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090F4EADAD229-mayreading
