I finally updated our photo section, I realized that I hadn't been putting photos from my phone, only my camera so there are some from before winter break that are out of order, but still cute!
I'm sure you've guessed from our homework that we have been learning all about multiplication and division. The kids are LOVING it and doing a great job! We are however moving into our fraction unit this week as we took our Unit 7 Assessment last week and reflected on our learning from the unit. Our fraction unit has a lot of literature involved as reading is a great way to learn about math!
In science we are starting our plant unit. This is one of my favorite science units in second grade! We will start by doing a bit of reading and then having the students develop questions and investigations about what they want to learn. The Colorado State Standards want them to know that plants need sun, soil, water and air to survive, but our class has a lot of schema about plants so we will be moving beyond that and stretching their thinking much further. In April we will be taking a field trip to the botanic gardens for their 'Plant Discover Day' (more details coming soon and also on the field trip page of the website).
We had a great week last week with surprising Mrs. Jackson with a baby shower. The kids were so amazing at keeping a secret, she had no idea! :) It's hard to believe that it's already March and soon she will be having her little girl. Don't forget that on Tuesday there is a meet and greet for Amanda Evans who will be Jaime's long term sub, from 7:30am-8:00am. If child care is an issue, don't forget that our cafeteria serves breakfast from 7:40am free of charge! We are excited to welcome Amanda and she will be staying all day so that she can meet all the kids and get a feel for our classroom communities.
Lastly, there is a nonfiction celebration on Friday from 8:30am-9:30am so the students can show off all their hard work! We will be celebrating
